FAQ - Access to standards and patents

Where in the Library is the "standards reading room"?

Collection of standards and patents is administered by the staff of the Special Collections Department. Information about the collection of Polish and foreign standards are available here. For more information, please contact us by email or phone (normy[at]bg.agh.edu[dot]pl, tel. 12 617 32 17).

How to use the standards during the COVID-19 pandemic? Who can use the standards?
The Standards, Patents, and Cartographic Collections Reading Room is open as of September 6, 2021. Computer terminals are available in the Reading Room for viewing standards. Call us 12 61732 17 or email: normy[at]bg.agh.edu[dot]pl if you would like to check in advance that the standards you are looking for are available.  Please note that computer printouts of excerpts of the standards are made only for teaching or scientific purposes for AGH employees, doctoral students and students only. They may not be distributed in any way. To order a printout, please use the form.

Can standards be borrowed "outside"?
Standards are not loaned externally.

Is access to standards in electronic form possible from outside the reading room?
Unfortunately, due to the legal protection of these documents, standards in electronic versions are available only on-site in the Reading Room of Standards, Patents and Cartographic Collections.

Is it possible to buy standards at the Standards Information Point? If not, then where?
For AGH employees and at the request of organizational units of the University, we carry out orders for the purchase of standards and other publications of the Polish Committee for Standardization, as well as orders for foreign standards. The Standards Information Point in the AGH Main Library does not sell standards to persons or institutions outside AGH. Standards can be purchased via PKN web store.

Are patent descriptions available on-line?
All Polish and foreign patent descriptions are available on-line in publicly accessible databases (e.g. ewyszukiwarka.pue.uprp.gov.pl, worldwide.espacenet.com).
